The 27th annual AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and Awards kicked off yesterday at the Palms in Las Vegas. This January extravaganza of skin, silicone, and sex on camera is known as the Oscars of the adult entertainment industry. It's a chance for the movers and shakers of the porn industry to toast their own during an award show and celebrate their chosen profession with a weekend-long convention/orgy of general debauchery.



Both the expo and award show is open to the public. It's a chance for skin flick fans and tech geeks (who also happen to be in Vegas for the annual international CES convention) to acquaint themselves with their favorite video vixens. Last year porn stars such as Jenna Haze and Savannah Stern gleefully signed autographs and posed for snapshots on the convention center floor. On Saturday, the award show will be hosted by Kayden Kross, Kirsten Price, Dave Attell, and Baby Bash. If you're headed to Vegas this weekend, we found tickets to the award show on Las Vegas Craigslist running between $250 and $300, as well as VIP passes to numerous after-show parties.

Since the bacchanalian festivities began in 1984, the AVNs have become more and more popular. The event now attracts Hollywood luminaries and is broadcast on Showtime. Despite its mainstream success, the porno Oscars still has the ability to surprise. Oscar Wilde once asked asked if life imitated art or art imitated life. The aphorism continues to baffle both writers, Hollywood directors, actors, and liberal arts students. Timeless novelty titles such as "In Diana Jones", "Star Whores," "Dial M for Missionary," "When Harry Ate Sally," and "Edward Penishands," take a cinematic experience to an X-rated -- albeit somewhat trashy -- new level. If imitation is the highest form of flattery, than a provocative porn parody with an ingenious title may be the ultimate barometer for measuring whether or not something has truly made a blip on the zeitgeist.

That said, you can imagine our excitement when we found out a production company called Zero Tolerance Entertainment is spoofing MTV's "Jersey Shore" as a spicy skin flick. In the spirit of seeing a bogus J-Woww get J-Wowwed, we rounded up 40 of the greatest television porn parodies ever produced. The genre has exploded in the last few years, so we included their non-nude, yet kinda, sorta NSFW YouTube trailers, if we could find one, as well as their delightfully cheesy taglines, if we could find one. One last note: we were surprised at how uncreative some of the names are. For every "Twin Cheeks" there's a "The Office -- An XXX Parody." (What, was "The Orifice" already taken?)

Do you think there is any downside to being a male pornographer? And how many of these porn stars are just riddled with STDs?

Howie Marks: Sure there are downsides. Unless you're a good performer and working every day you're not going to make the kind of money a girl does. You'd make more money having a 9-to-5 job in many cases.

As for the STDs, everyone is tested monthly and if they do have something that's treatable, they'll treat it and get retested. If they have HIV, however, everyone they've worked with recently will be tested and so forth to contain an outbreak. HIV transmission doesn't happen too often and when it does it's usually from male to female. The male transmitting it will generally be doing something else on the side (like having sex with transsexuals and hooking for men) and that's how they've acquired HIV.

How do I meet these beautiful ladies by any chance, because I would dearly love to talk to one/get to know one better?

Howie Marks: Most of these girls are Twitter whores. They all love the attention, so something as retarded as that gets them. It's like \`whoever can get the most followers wins' kind of mentality. You can try to hit them up on there but they're likely to ignore you. Many agencies hire girls out for bachelor parties and that might be something you want to try if the girl you're looking to meet is willing to do dances at parties. And also, many of these girls will headline at a strip club so there is an opportunity to meet them there. And finally, you might be able to meet you favorite starlet at one of many adult convention shows throughout the year.
