Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg Perform 'Lazy Sunday' Live

by AG | March 9, 2010 at 11:32 a.m.

When "Lazy Sunday" premiered on "Saturday Night Live" on December 17, 2005, it was only the second "SNL Digital Short," and one of the first, and certainly at the time most successful, truly viral videos on the Internet. In just several months, the YouTube clip wracked up 5 million pageviews, before NBC had it removed from the site (it later reemerged in NBC.com and Hulu). The video spawned countless instant imitations and nearly a half decade of comedic viral videos. Last night on Jimmy Fallon's show, Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg finally reunited to perform "Lazy Sunday" live. It's not quite as effective as the real thing, but it's still very funny. It's after the jump, along with the original, and one other "Lonely Planet" favorite.  Keep Reading »

by joePA | March 7, 2010 at 2:07 p.m.

After hyping Zach Galifianakis' SNL hosting debut on Friday, the comedian and "The Hangover" star did not disappoint last night -- well, in the first half of the show at least. We've posted the highlights after the jump, including his monologue and a ridiculous sketch with Kristen Wiig about bidets.  Keep Reading »

Winnipeg High School Pep Rally Turns Into 'Two Teachers, One Chair'

by AG | February 25, 2010 at 4:08 p.m.

Two teachers in Winnipeg, Canada, have been suspended without pay after performing a lap dance during a high school pep rally. According to the Toronto Star, in videos that have since been posted on YouTube, "an adult female wearing pigtails beckons to an adult male. He grinds up against her, thrusting suggestively and sticking his head between her legs several times. Students hoot in the background."

Two videos -- yes, this was caught in two different angles -- are after the jump.  Keep Reading »

by AG | January 10, 2010 at 3:55 p.m.

It's football Sunday and the Patriots are getting spanked, which means the Jets are heading to San Diego. Awaiting them will be the Chargers and LDT, who's apparently been to one too many bar mitzvahs and weddings. Here he is doing the LT Style Dance. Thanks to Tom from Gettysburg for the tip.

54 More of the Best Catchphrases of the Decade, Reader Edition

by joePA | December 23, 2009 at 11:55 a.m.
Last week we weighed in with our "50 Best Catch Phrases of the Decade." At the end of the piece, we asked you to weigh in with your suggestions for the list. The response from our readers in the comments was incredible. Based on your recommendations, we decided to compile another "end of the decade" retrospective with 54 more quotable catch phrases from 2000 through 2009. We've also peppered the list with a few exceptional one-liners that were originally scrapped from the final screed. Go grab a snack and a beer and give yourself about an hour to watch, laugh, reminisce, and relive all your favorite. Because this listicle is stretched out over five pages, save your comments and airing of grievances for the end.

Final Note: We've divided these quotes into different categories, and you really shouldn't read too much into their order. Also, we probably haven't mined the full possibilities of catch phases from music and viral videos, so if there are any obvious ones that we missed (likely), leave them in the comments.

SPORTS:

54. "BOOM goes the Dynamite!"
Origin: Brian Collin, former sports reporter for KXXV television in Waco, Texas; 2008

53. "We talkin' about practice?!"
Origin: Allen Iverson; 2002

The Situation Comes Clean, and Alyssa Milano Slips Into Her Best Snooki Makeup

by AG | December 22, 2009 at 11:24 a.m.

"Jersey Shore" is truly the gift that keeps on giving. At least the cast members are fully embracing the ridiculousness of the whole thing and cashing in on it, right? I mean, the rest of the world is, so why not them? Funny or Die released two funny spoof videos this week. The one above is called "The REAL Situation" and after the jump, Alyssa Milano gets the Snooki treatment in the form of a Dove-like "Evolution" commercial. Funny stuff.  Keep Reading »

The 50 Best Catch Phrases of the Decade

by joePA | December 17, 2009 at 12:33 p.m.
It's been 10 years since the over-hyped anti-climax of Y2K. Over the course of the past decade, Hollywood and other entertainment producers have bestowed a delightfully heaping platter of movies and TV shows upon the popular culture. However, only a select few can lay claim to an addictive catch phrase or razor-sharp one-liner that's actually worth reciting -- repeatedly -- to your happy-hour buddies over a couple of beers.

In the event you just woke up from a 10-year coma, here are the top 50 catch phrases, quotes, and one liners that have hurled themselves into our national conversation during the 2000s. There's a pretty good chance you have most of these memorized by heart. Although some are more memorable than others, all have made a blip on the pop culture zeitgeist between 2000 and 2009. When compiling this list, cliche Internet memes such as "fail" and "FML" were ignored, as were sappy chick flick quotes, wrestling slogans, and obnoxious shticks (read: "Get 'er Done"). Some are iconic and many are humorous, with lots of NSFW F-bombs embedded into the accompanying videos, so it might be wise to stick the ear buds in if you're at the office or library. One last thing: even in this age of wall-to-wall YouTube, there are a few worthy nominees that didn't make the list simply because we couldn't find the appropriate clip to embed. Feel to add your own favorites in the comments, but just remember that this story is presented over 5 pages, so hold your complaints until you see the complete list.

50. "Shake and bake..."
Origin: "Talladega Nights"; 2006
Who Said It: Cal Naughton Jr. (John C. Reilly)

Notes: When you got a message for someone talking trash, telling them to "shake and bake" may blow their mind.

49. "But why is the rum gone?"
Origin: "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"; 2003
Who Said It: Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp)

Notes: If you've ever run out of liquor on a family vacation, you've probably dropped this line. Alternate "Pirates" quote, used in many a spring break: "Welcome to the Caribbean, love."  Keep Reading »
