Brooklyn Decker, Bar Refaeli, Lindsey Vonn, and More Swimsuit Issue Beauties in Sexy 'Off-the-Clock' Photos

by AG | February 20, 2010 at 1:49 p.m.

We thought we were long past our coverage of the 2010 Swimsuit Issue, but this morning cover star Brooklyn Decker alerted us, via Twitter, to the existence of the collection of "Off the Clock" photos, including the shot of Decker herself above. These black-and-white shots are apparently behind-the-scenes photos of the swimsuit beauties at their photo shoots, reading books, surfing the web, blowing bubbles, or just rolling around in bed. I don't know, they seem a little staged to us, but I guess swimsuit models really do hang around half-naked on these photo shoots. After the jump, check out tons more photos, including Lindsey Vonn taking a bubble bath.  Keep Reading »

Bar Refaeli, Brooklyn Decker, Hilary Rhoda, and More Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2010 Beauties

by AG | February 9, 2010 at 11:23 a.m.

We showed you the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue late last night, and now it's time to take a look inside the greatest magazine issue of the year. We've only just begun to crack the surface of SI.com/swimsuit and could probably spend the entire day going through that site, looking at photos, watching videos, and dreaming of Brooklyn Decker. What have we discovered so far?

At first glance, the 2010 edition seems to be a lot tamer than in years past. This isn't to say that the girls are any less beautiful -- they're as gorgeous as ever. But there seems to be a little less skin, a little less nipple, a little less ass, a little less provocation, a little less over the top. Last year's signature move of girls pulling down their bikini bottom strings, for example, is almost nowhere to be found. None of that means there are not amazing shots to be found. We've just started going through the main model shots (there are 45 for each girl), and are bringing you in this post some of the stalwarts: Brooklyn Decker, Bar Refaeli (above), Hilary Rhoda, Jessica White, Esti Ginzburg, Daniella Sarahyba, Cintia Dicker, and Anne V. We're only excerpt a few shots for each girl; SI has made it more difficult this year to share their shots outside of their website, which is understandable considering how much time and effort goes into making this issue each year. Point being, enjoy this small taste of the Swimsuit Issue, but then head over to SI.com to really get the full experience -- and head to the newsstand and get the real thing, just like in seventh grade!  Keep Reading »

Are Those Trees Growing on Mars? And What Does That Have to Do with the 1996 Swimsuit Issue?

by AG | January 13, 2010 at 5:49 p.m.

New photos from NASA of Mars reveal what appears to be trees growing out of sand dunes. Except not really. According to this NASA blog, here's what they really are:

There is a vast region of sand dunes at high northern latitudes on Mars. In the winter, a layer of carbon dioxide ice covers the dunes, and in the spring as the sun warms the ice it evaporates. This is a very active process, and sand dislodged from the crests of the dunes cascades down, forming dark streaks... Falling material has kicked up a small cloud of dust. The color of the ice surrounding adjacent streaks of material suggests that dust has settled on the ice at the bottom after similar events.

Couldn't have explained them better ourselves. Anyway, looking at those sand dunes made us think of Manon von Gerken and the 1996 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, shot in South Africa. Needless to say, it's been a long day. More photos from S.I. after the jump, just because.

Sports Illustrated Names Derek Jeter Sporstman of the Year

by AG | November 30, 2009 at 10:08 a.m.

In a year littered with plenty of sports controversies along with plenty of great, if not truly historic championship performances, Sports Illustrated went with the safe, nice-guy choice for its Sportsman of the Year: Derek Jeter.

The issue hits stands on Wednesday, but here's how SI is justifying their selection:  Keep Reading »

A Couple Recommended 9/11 Articles Worth Reading

by AG | September 11, 2009 at 3:28 p.m.
The web is flooded with Sept. 11-themed stories today, and we thought we'd pass on one from a writer at Sports Illustrated, Jeff Pearlman. It's two pieces actually. In SI's first issue after the attacks, Pearlman profiled Tyler Ugolyn, a former Columbia University basketball player who was working as a research associate on the 93rd floor of Tower 1 when the planes hit. Today, eight years later, Pearlman writes about the friendship that he formed with Ugolyn's father, Victor, who heads a foundation named for his son that refurbishes inner-city basketball courts, which was a passion of Tyler's when he was at Columbia.

Read a good 9/11 story today worth sharing? Post in the comments.

The Top 10 Sports Illustrated Cover Athlete Flops

by Thornton Melon | June 8, 2009 at 12:27 p.m.
In case you haven't seen this week's Sports Illustrated, there is a story on 16-year-old Bryce Harper, lovingly referred to as "baseball's LeBron." The pitcher/catcher can throw 96 MPH, gun down runners trying to steal second from his knees, and has hit a home run a mind-boggling 570 feet. In other words, he's the greatest prospect who ever lived. Why else would SI put him on the cover?

Of course, SI doesn't have the best history with their covers. Forget about the curse, here are 10 covers the magazine wishes they could take a mulligan on.

Sebastian Telfair, March 2004
Yes he can? No he can't. In five seasons for three different teams, Telfair is averaging 10 points and five assists per game. What else should you expect from the cousin of Stephon Marbury?

Jon Peters, May 1989
Let's hope Peters enjoyed his week on the SI cover because it was all downhill from there. He blew out his arm shortly after the story came out, did next to nothing in college, and faded away like David Ortiz through the first two months of this season.  Keep Reading »

Dog Torturer Released and We Don't Really Care That He Once Played Football

by AG | May 20, 2009 at 11:40 a.m.

Michael Vick was released quietly and secretly from prison today, and we've been mulling how to cover it: we've considered everything from pondering which football team -- NFL, Arena, or otherwise -- might make the first bid for his services to looking back through his great highlights as a player. But you know what? Screw that. There might be time for all that in the coming months and years, but right now, let's all remember the dogs whose Vick's dog fighting ring so viciously abused and mistreated. Sports Illustrated wrote a great cover story about the dogs last December. Read it here and then go take your own dog for a walk.

Eva Herzigova Found! And She's Looking Good!

by AG | March 11, 2009 at 1:49 p.m.

Last month we wondered what ever happened to Eva Herzigova, who stole our hearts with her chiseled abs and piercing eyes when she first appeared in Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue back in the mid-1990s. Ten years after her last SI photos, Egotastic tracked down some new bikini shots and pointed out that she was looking a little on the thin side. A little compare and contrast, though, and we think she doesn't look much thinner (she was always a ripped beanpole), just, well a decade older and definitely in need of some sun. We still think she's gorgeous. Check out her old SI shots after the jump and tell us what you think.
