Tiger Woods Will Return to Golf at the Masters

by AG | March 16, 2010 at 11:18 a.m.

Holy shit. Will he play in the Par 3 Tournament because that would be fucking awesome. TIGER!!!!!!!!

MORE: Here's his statement:

"The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta.

"The major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played.

"I have undergone almost two months of inpatient therapy and I am continuing my treatment. Although I'm returning to competition, I still have a lot of work to do in my personal life."

MORE: First two rounds will be broadcast by ESPN. If Tiger doesn't play in the Par 3 tournament, his return will come on Thursday, April 8. It will be ESPN's biggest ratings ever. If he's in the hunt on Sunday, it could get bigger ratings than the Super Bowl for CBS.  Keep Reading »

Rumors: Elin Moves Back Home, Tiger Readies for First Tournament

by AG | March 4, 2010 at 3:06 p.m.

Since the Tiger Woods Watch is in fact only just starting to heat up, we thought we'd alert you to two different reports today about the Striped One's comeback. First, RadarOnline is reporting that Elin is moving back into their Windermere home. Of course, Radar is also the same news outlet that earlier today claimed that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts was resigning. They retracted that story in about 25 minutes, so take this Tiger gossip with a grain of salt.

The other news is about Tiger's possible return to the professional links.  Keep Reading »

by joePA | March 2, 2010 at 4:36 p.m.

After a week of family counseling in Arizona and losing his $100 million deal with Gatorade, Tiger Woods is back in Florida practicing his golf game in Florida. Just in time for Tigers' possible return to the PGA tour, a new iPhone app has hit the market to help straying partners avoid the same domestic debacle as the Masters champion.  Keep Reading »

Tiger Woods Inks New Sponsorship Deal, Plans Friday Morning Press Conference

by AG | February 17, 2010 at 3:03 p.m.

There are two statements in the headline. One is a joke. One is true. According to a statement released by his agent and spokesman:

"Tiger Woods will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues, and close associates at [11 a.m. ET Friday] at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future and he plans to apologize for his behavior." There will be no Q&A session, natch.

Tiger Woods Taking Hiatus From Golf

by AG | December 11, 2009 at 7:07 p.m.

Tiger Woods just released this statement on his website:

I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What's most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

'Entourage' Hijinks, Football Galore, Tiger Goes for Another, and the Glory of America's National Parks

by AG | September 25, 2009 at 7:21 p.m.

Just a quick word about two TV shows Sunday night. Back at the beginning of the season, we predicted that "Entourage" would finally enter the world of paparazzi and gossip websites and YouTube scandals, which had been all but absent in the first five seasons. Our first guess was that with Vince becoming more independent, earning his driver's license, and shooting a Ferrari biopic that he would end up in some DUI-related car accident. Hasn't happened. Then we saw that young co-ed pull out the video camera in her dorm room while Vinny fucked her, and predicted a major sextape scandal. Turns out all we got out of that was some sorority girls stealing Turtle's underwear. So far. Now comes the YouTube video above of apparently Adrian Grenier shooting a video for a charity, with Matt Damon directing him. As you'll see, Matt and Adrian don't quite see eye to eye, and the video of the ensuing "set explosion" was just "leaked out" to the Internet. As many have pointed out elsewhere, the video is of course a fake, or at least a fictional scene between Vinny and Matt Damon, with Ari looking on in horror in the background. So HBO thought they'd be clever and leak the "set explosion" to YouTube just as it will happen in the real show. We suppose it's clever, especially in this age of Christian Bale videos (though wouldn't Vinny be the one flipping out, not Damon?). Anyway, we still think our two predicted scandals would have been more interesting. But maybe that's why we're in a small office in New York and not (YET!) in Hollywood showrunning our own HBO series.

Last soapbox statement: We know most of you will be tuning in to see Peyton vs. Warner Sunday night -- or all the shows on HBO and Showtime -- but we highly recommend the new Ken Burns documentary, "The National Parks," which airs at 8 p.m. on PBS, and will continue all next week. We know, we know, it's PBS... and Ken Burns. But he's a master documentarian and if watching any part of this documentary doesn't make you want to drop everything and go on an adventure in one of our country's awe-inspiring national parks -- remember that, as all the ads say, YOU own all 84 million acres -- then you should just go live underground with the mole people in the subways.

Enjoy your weekends and Oktoberfest, but NO DRUNK DRIVING.

BAR GOLF: INVADING NYC 10-17

by The Campus Socialite | September 24, 2009 at 11:49 p.m.

The Waffles McButter Experiment Is Now Over

by Waffles McButter | August 14, 2009 at 4:56 p.m.

The Waffles McButter Experiment is now offically over. And by the looks of it, my old pal Billy Mays seemed to enjoy it. It's been a hell of a day and I am exhausted. Thanks to all who tuned in, I hope you enjoyed it as much as Billy and I did.

Now that I got that sappy shit out of the way here's what's on tap for the weekend...

Movies:
Personally, I am anxiously awaiting next weekend's opening of "Inglorious Bastards," a Quinton Tarantino film, which, from what I understand, is loosely based on "The Diary of Anne Frank." This weekend, however, marks the opening of "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" a comedy starring Jeremy Piven. Even though I have heard mixed reviews about the movie, it still might be your best option in the "New Releases" category. Also opening this weekend is "District 9", otherwise known as "Independence Day 2: Leave Us the Fuck Alone Already" and Spread" a movie who's title will closely depict my encounters with female legs over the next 2 days. For anyone who is either considering a sex change or looking to relive the 90's by watching a movie that clearly rips off "Quantum Leap," "The Time Travelers Wife" is also opening this weekend.

TV:
This weekend Tiger goes for his 15th Major, his 5th career PGA Championship and his third win in a row. He and all his club swinging cronies can be found on both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on TNT and then on CBS from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.. And, of course, there's HBO's Sunday nights: "True Blood" at 9, "Hung" at 10, and "Entourage" at 10:30. Long live Johnny Drama!

Here's tonight's late-night lineup:
"Letterman": Sandra Day O'Connor, John Legend
"Conan": Shaquille O'Neil, Demitri Martin
"Kimmel": Jonah Hill, Mary McCormick, Ryan Scheckler
"Ferguson": Liza Minnelli, Dr. Kara Cooney
"Fallon": Tracy Morgan, January Jones, Neal Brennan

Can Tiger Woods Add an Olympic Gold Medal to His Trophy Case?

by AG | August 13, 2009 at 11:28 a.m.

The Great Striped Golfer is already -2 through 6 at the PGA Championship as he makes a bid for his third straight win, his 15th major, and his 71st overall professional victory. But will Tiger ever be able to win a gold medal in the Olympics? It looks that way. The International Olympic Committee announced today that it is recommending that golf and rugby be added to sports lineup for the 2016 Summer Olympics, whose host site has yet to be named. Tiger says he would definitely play in the Games, but prefers a match-play format instead of the typical 72-hole, four-round tourney. And we guarantee that if that's what Tiger wants, that's what Tiger is going to get. We can see it now: Tiger Woods on the 18th at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Illinois, with an 8-footer to win the gold and send Vijay Singh back to Fiji with the silver. And we know he'll be wearing red...

Tiger Misses Cut; Watson Climbs Back Into Lead; World Fails to End

by AG | July 17, 2009 at 4:55 p.m.

Yep, no Tiger Woods this weekend in Turnberry, just the fourth time he's missed a cut in 232 professional events. But you'll see plenty of Tom Watson, who had a rocky start to the second round, then climbed back with two putts from the other side of Scotland on 16 and 18 to get back to 5-under. Anyway, re. Tiger: somehow the Apocalypse is not upon us. Go figure. The full leaderboard is after the jump.  Keep Reading »

10 Years Later, Van de Velde's Collapse Still a Nightmare

by AG | July 16, 2009 at 10:28 a.m.

Tom Watson jumped out to a first-round lead at the British Open this morning with a 5-under 65, with Stewart Cink, Steve Stricker, and three others trailing by one in the clubhouse. We're still a long way from Sunday, but on this tenth anniversary of the 1999 Open at Carnoustie in Scotland, it's worth remembering the worst 18th-hole collapse in the history of major championship golf. Every golf fan, and even most casual sports fans, know the name Jean Van de Velde -- the man who came to the 18th tee with a 3-stroke lead and ended up making a disastrous 7 on the last hole, falling back into a three-way playoff with Justin Leonard and Paul Lawrie, which he eventually lost. It was an epic collapse, as documented by the video above and below, and by one of Rick Reilly's best Sports Illustrated columns that we can remember.

What you might not know about Van de Velde, however, is that he went back to the scene of the crime a few months later, in the dead of winter, and tried to score a 6 on the 18th hole -- using only his putter (as some commentators told him he could have used in the first place and still won). The three-part video is essentially an infomercial for the putter he's using, but it's still remarkable to watch. We love his sense of humor and the fact that just like on that July day back in 1999 we found ourselves rooting for him to, well, not blow it. And at the end of the day, he can still roll a putt. Check it out after the jump.

UPDATED: Glover Wins U.S. Open!

by AG | June 22, 2009 at 12:52 p.m.
Okay, here's your leaderboard after back-to-back bogies by Phil and back-to-back-to-back birdies by Duval:

Glover, -4, 16
Duval, -3, 16
Mickelson, -2, 17
Barnes, -2, 16
Fisher, -2, 16

Phil had a great tee shot at 18. Hunter Mahan, playing with Phil, has fallen apart and is at even. Everyone else is in the clubhouse at Even or worse. This tournament is now Glover's to lose. We'd love to see Phil birdie 18 to get it to -3, and put the pressure on Duval and Glover. And if this thing goes to a playoff, doesn't Barnes deserve a spot in there, too?

UPDATE 12:59: Duval and Fisher just dropped a shot. Glover leads by 2. Mickelson has a long putt for birdie on 18.

UPDATE 1:02: Phil misses by two inches. Pars 18 to finish at -2. Barring a collapse by Glover, Phil, Amy, and fam are off to Hawaii.

UPDATE 1:12: Duval misses his own putt on 18 by a couple inches, to join Phil in the clubhouse at 18. Glover is up by two strokes and hit a 6-iron off the 18th tee, playing it very safe. Barnes pulls out his driver and hits a bullet down the center of the fairway. Barnes needs to knock it close and convert for a birdie and hope that Glover puts up a bogie to force a playoff.

UPDATE 1:18: Glover is away on the 18th green. About 10 feet beyond Barnes on the same line.

UPDATE 1:21: Glover wins!
