'Fort Boyard' May Be the Hottest French Game Show Ever

by joePA | March 8, 2010 at 1:17 p.m.

Vaguely resembling "Fear Factor," the hottest television game show craze du jour in France is called Fort Boyard. According to its Wikipedia page, contestants participate in physical endurance and adventure challenges and sleep in a derelict and creepy prison fort. What caught our attention was this sexy nine minute video floating around the Internet. Apparently the requisite for getting on the show is a wardrobe of low-cut shirts and a great rack. Check out Fort Boyard's cleavage episode after the jump.  Keep Reading »

'Hurt Locker's Big Night, the Best of Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, and Lots and Lots of Logos

by AG | March 8, 2010 at 10:42 a.m.
"The Hurt Locker" took home six, count 'em, six Oscars last night, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, as well as Best Editing, and two Sound awards. The latter three were big misses from my Oscar predictions last week -- I thought "Avatar" would haul those in, and bring it's total tally to six. Alas, it was reversed: Not only did "Hurt" win all the big non-acting awards, it was also the top trophy hauler of the night. (As big of a fan of "Hurt" as I am, I should have known, right?) As far as the other awards, not many big surprises. All the Acting winners that everyone predicted -- Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, Mo'nique, and Christoph Waltz -- got their due. "Precious" winning Best Adapted Screenplay over "Up in the Air" was probably the biggest shock of the night.

Along with Best Foreign Language Film, I also totally whiffed on the three short categories (I went 16 for 24 overall). The Documentary Short caused the biggest controversy of the night when one of the producers of the winning film pulled a Kanye and interrupted the director giving his speech. I also should have guessed that "Logorama" would win best Animated short. It's the one nominee that I actually saw and actually have been meaning to share with you all over the past week, but just never got around to posting it. Well, it's after the jump and well worth watching -- the 16-minute movie took six years to make and is comprised entirely of more than 2,500 corporate logos.  Keep Reading »

Amazing Video: New York City, in Miniature

by AG | March 4, 2010 at 2:00 a.m.

I've been meaning to post this video all week, and am finally getting around to it tonight, at 2 a.m. Oh well. It's called "The Sandpit" and if you haven't seen it elsewhere, you really should spend a few minutes checking it out. The subtitle for the video is "A day in the life of New York City, in miniature." The photographer/filmmaker, Sam O'Hare, used a special camera lens on a digital still camera to take photographs that make a normal cityscape look like it's a miniature model. Essentially the area of focus for these "tilt-shift" photographs are constrained, typically to the center section of the image. Everything above and below it becomes out of focus, creating the illusion of miniaturization. O'Hare took some 35,000 rapid-fire photographs throughout New York City, and strung them together to make this film. It's really amazing and it's after the jump.  Keep Reading »

Argentinean Bro Pushes Van Out of Way of Oncoming Train

by AG | February 11, 2010 at 1:28 p.m.
We're re-starting our "Bro of the Week" feature tomorrow, and we've found today's nominee: An Argentinean man on the back of a motorcycle realized that the stalled van in front of him was about to get hit by a train. So what's he do? He gets off the motorcycle and pushes the van off the tracks, with just a split second to spare. The incredible video is after the jump. It's a must-watch, and keep watching, by the way: Gotta love how the hero for once takes a few moments to bask in just how fucking awesome what he just did was.  Keep Reading »

Nature is officially cool. Turn up the volume and notice how silent the whole thing is. You really only hear the local Kiwis freaking out about it.
