Denzel Washington vs Will Smith: Who Really Gives a Shit?
by Hammer Time | October 30, 2009 - 7:48am | 5 comments - 20 readsIn the following seconds, a silence fell upon the bus as everyone went through all of the Fresh Prince's many laudable performances. "Ali" was offered as a possible answer. "The Pursuit of Happyness" followed shortly thereafter. Everyone agreed that "I am Legend" is underrated and that "I, Robot" was just a "Minority Report" sequel. Then it happened. "I liked him in 'Training Day,'" shouted one of our jackass senior players. Everyone looked at each other for a moment, and then the bus burst into hysterical laughter. "Yeah moron, I liked Denzel in 'Men in Black,' too!" But then the epiphany had arrived. Will Smith and Denzel Washington could play each other's role in so many great movies -- and no, not because they're Hollywood's two biggest black leading men. Who wouldn't have loved Denzel, rather than Will, opposite Tommy Lee Jones in "Men in Black"? And who could not picture Will Smith killing the role as the aggressive disciplinarian Coach Boone in "Remember the Titans"? Both played legendary boxers (Muhammad Ali and Rubin "Hurricane" Carter) also!!! They are two of Hollywood's most bankable stars and have created so many memorable cinematic moments. Why not put them in a movie together? Boom.

Sweet article…...You had to get that in writing…........Go bounce on a dick
You must agree that Denzel has the persona of a much tougher and jaded individual. Can you really picture Will Smith in Training Day or Man on Fire? I can’t. This might derive from the fact that we all watched Will jump around infunky 80’s garb throughout our childhood on Fresh Prince while Denzel had a clean slate before launching a major Hollywood blockbuster career. Denzel has also really only portrayed bada**es while Will has been known to take the occasional role for the dough. Would appreciate a response or comment from brobible staff.
In “The Bone Collector” he sat in a bed for two hours. See also: “The Preacher’s Wife.” Still, you make a good point. Denzel definitely plays the badass much more often than not.
Ummmmm… Ali sucked, Independence Day was great (Pulman’s speech especially) and Denzel plays the better badass. But, and more importantly, my overall stance on this topic can basically be summed up in the second half of the title…
Yea, but in “The Bone Collector” isn’t his character the one who fooled the police and killed all of those people in gruesomely awesome ways?
Denzel is such a deeper actor than Will Smith. ALL of Will Smith’s movies are all the same - him vs. insurmountable odds. Boring. Denzel plays complex characters all the time, Will Smith does not.
