In case you missed the memo, eco is totally hot with a capitol H right now. Dudes like Al Gore and Ed Begley, Jr. have long been the haggard faces of the green movement so it's great to see that there are some non-crunchy poster girls, too. Here's seven of our favorite gals of green.
Summer Rayne Oakes: An obvious first choice, but this model/eco-activist deserves it. Summer (we know, her misleading moniker reeks of patchouli) makes sustainability sexy. As a model,
Summer) has been crucial in alerting bros to the fact that green fashion isn't just about Woodstock-era threads. As many of her photos suggest, it's about wearing
less. No complaints here.
Kylie Minogue: This sheila that we can never get out of of heads is pure Aussie green gold. Smoking songstress Kylie may be better known for her pop tunes but she's pretty vocal about conservation issues and even lived in a sustainable island estate outside of Melbourne. We like a girl that can rough it, eco-style.
Pamela Anderson: We're kinda scared of PETA, the animal rights group that Pam campaigns and often disrobes for, but this 41-year-old nature nut couldn't be any less threatening. Just don't mention the
"f" word.
Gisele Bundchen: We get an A for effort for attempting to peruse Gisele's earth-minded
blogwithout getting distracted by the accompanying photo of the Brazilian bombshell straddling some kind of leafy stool thing in the middle of a virtual jungle.
Daryl Hannah: Our favorite mermaid/one-eyed assassin, Ms. Daryl Hanna, is also an avid environmentalist. Daryl's been laying kind of low these days but her personal website,
dhlovelife.com), never fails to hold our attention.
Olivia Zaleski: This razor-sharp eco-wit from NYC is turning heads as the "Green Money Honey." The environmental correspondent for CNNMoney and
Fortune mag's Business of Green, Olivia can be found turning up the heat on wall street, corporate giants, and polluting CEOs -- smokin'.
Jane Fonda: An older lady, sure, but brainy, passionate, and perennially sexy Jane Fonda will always be bad ass no matter what cause she supports. Jane has recently returned to B'way and her daughter with "And God Created Women" director Roger Vadim, Vanessa Vadim, is carrying on the eco-torch with a column over at the
Mother Nature Network.
