Tracy McGrady Traded to Knicks; Has Value in Name Only

tracyThe NBA trade deadline passed about an hour ago, and the big blockbuster of the day is Tracy McGrady is heading to the Knicks. Here's the breakdown:

The Knicks receive: Tracy McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez
The Rockets receive: Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, Hilton Armstrong, the right to swap first-round picks with New York in 2011, and New York's 2012 first-round pick (rumor is Knicks' 2011 pick is Top-1 protected and 2012 pick is Top-5 protected)
The Kings receive: Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey, and Larry Hughes

Mr. T's analysis: Rockets GM Daryl Morey continues to amaze. This is a serious heist he pulled off when you consider McGrady was banished from the team in December and the other trade components (Landry, Dorsey, and Armstrong) are highly expendable.

Houston has plenty of guys who can play defense, but they don't have a #1 scorer. The 27-year-old Martin has the ability to fill it up faster than you can on a Saturday afternoon at the sperm bank. Maybe things aren't in place for a run this year, but this team could be dangerous next year with Yao back (and hopefully 100%) and the nice complementary parts such as Trevor Ariza, Aaron Brooks, and Luis Scola.

The Knicks on the other hand are taking a risk on the summer of 2010, but we know that already. Knicks fans shouldn't get too enamored with T-Mac because he likely won't be back. He'll be a cheap thrill for the rest of the regular season, but his name carries a lot more than his game does these days. I actually like the acquisition of Sergio Rodriguez. He could be developed into a backup PG of the future and fits the D'Antoni offense really well. If the Knicks can't sign either LeBron or Wade this summer, this whole trade is for naught. Typically they added a 2012 first rounder into the mix for no reason (as if Morey really declared he wasn't getting enough in this deal). Couldn't they have gotten more protection than they did on both picks? Personally, I think the Knicks are going to get screwed at the end of all this. They're going to end up with Joe Johnson and Chris Bosh, two players who aren't good enough to carry a roster. Then we'll find out if those two draft picks were worth that extra $6 million of cap space.

And the Kings... Well, who cares, right? I'm not really sure what's worth it for them in this deal, but this is the same team that drafted Tyreke Evans when they really needed a facilitator (Ricky Rubio).

is that a joke? saying the king shouldve picked rubio instead of tyreke? rubio is not coming to the nba for another couple years, and tyreke is putting up 20ppg as a rook. rubio is overrated anyway

You ruined all your credibility with that last paragragh. Evans is the ROY and the reason the Kings are building around him and traded Martin in the process. Rubio is a hype machine. Kings GM Geoff Petrie might be the second best in the league behind Morey. You Sir, however, suck.

Rubio is highligh overrated. Tyreke put up numbers in his rookie season that only Mike, Lebron, and Oscar Robertson have ever accomplished. Do you research bro

give the guy a break. Rubiois a once in a decade type of talent. Tyreke is a great rookie, and is unique but hes not PG, kid is a straight up SG if I have ever seen one. Rubio and Martin combo is better than just Tyreke
